The service commenced in January 2000 and now involves an investment of over 300,000 in pharmacy services. Contractual aims: The Service Level Contract covers the following services: Supervised administration of oral methadone (Supervised Administration) Support to users collecting their dispensed prescriptions for methadone and other drugs used in the management of drug misuse (Prescription Support) Syringe and needle exchange scheme for injecting drug users (Injecting Support) (a) Advice on harm reduction methods and (b) supply of condoms (Health Promotion) Basically, pharmacies taking part can opt apply to be registered for 2 aspects of the scheme. A. Supervised administration of drugs used to treatment or maintenance, prescription support (including reporting back to prescribers) and harm reduction advice. Currently 79 pharmacies are registered to provide these services. B. Injecting Support including needle exchange and supply of condoms.
