August 2008 During July community pharmacies in Sheffield took the “know your limits” message to the heart of communities across the city. All pharmacies are required to take part in the promotion of healthy lifestyles and NHS Sheffield works closely with pharmacies to help raise awareness on specific health issues relating to the people of Sheffield. The recent white paper “Pharmacy in England Building on Strengths delivering the future” has a vision for community pharmacies to become healthy living centres promoting health and helping people to take care of themselves. The team at Wicker Pharmacy gave brief advice on what constitutes a unit of alcohol and the recommended safer limits through the use of booklets, quiz sheets and interactive tools such as a fortune teller! James Wood from Wicker Pharmacy commented “ Pharmacies are well placed to target hard to reach sectors of the population who would not normally have access to this type of advice. Here at the Wicker we are available 365 days a year for advice without and appointment. We enjoyed the alcohol campaign and the materials available were both fun and engaging for members of the public” Photo: Members of the Wicker Team with promotional materials.
